Mt. Meru Trekking

Mount Meru (4,562m) is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and one of Africa’s most beautiful trekking mountains. Its breathtaking ridge-line ascent offers sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro, abundant wildlife encounters, and dramatic volcanic scenery. The climb follows a steady pace, providing a great acclimatization experience and an excellent alternative or warm-up for Kilimanjaro.
Accompanied by a park ranger, you’ll trek through lush forests, high-altitude moorland, and along the spectacular horseshoe crater rim to reach Socialist Peak.

Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Your mountain guide conducts a trek briefing and equipment check.

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
Begin your trek at Momella Gate. Walk through forest and grassland, spotting zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and monkeys along the way. Reach Miriakamba Hut by late afternoon.
Hiking Time: 4–6 hrs | Habitat: Montane Forest
Overnight at Miriakamba Hut.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,570m)
The trail climbs steadily through high montane forest and open glades to Saddle Hut. In the afternoon, take an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for spectacular sunset views.
Hiking Time: 3–5 hrs | Habitat: Moorland
Overnight at Saddle Hut.
Day 3: Summit Attempt – Socialist Peak (4,562m), Return to Miriakamba Hut
Start early (around midnight) to reach the summit at sunrise. Follow the steep ridge trail to Socialist Peak, soaking in unforgettable views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru Crater. Descend via Saddle Hut back to Miriakamba Hut for rest.
Hiking Time: 10–14 hrs | Habitat: Alpine Desert → Moorland
Overnight at Miriakamba Hut.
Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate & Transfer to Arusha
Descend through forest and grassland, once again spotting wildlife along the trail. At Momella Gate, receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Arusha.
Hiking Time: 2–4 hrs | Habitat: Forest

Day 5: Departure
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Arusha or explore town before your private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward flight.
